No foreigners but only people can bring AL in power: Quader
Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday said only the country's people can put the ruling party again in power and no 'foreign friend or country' can do so.
"We don't have foreign lords but friends," he told reporters at his ministry office at the Secretariat yesterday afternoon.
Terming India as a time-tested and trusted friend, Quader said both the neighbouring nations maintain good relations since 1971.
"Delhi needs us from the view of strategic policy and we also need Delhi. India is a very big country…the existing relationship between India and Bangladesh will further strengthen in the days to come. For example, now Bangladesh-India trade volume has increased manifold," Quader said.
Today Bangladesh became a member of the nuclear electricity club with the support from Russia, the road transport and bridges minister said, adding that on 23 October, metro rail from Agargaon to Motijheel is going to be inaugurated.
With support from Japan, the metro rail project was implemented and another mega project - Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Tunnel - in Chattogram has been implemented with assistance from China, he said.
"So our diplomatic policy is friendship to all, malice to none," he added.
Responding to a query, he said better relations with the USA does not mean that they will interfere in Bangladesh elections.
