Holding the next general election is necessary for the well-being of the nation, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said today (23 December).
Speaking after meetings with NDM and Gono Odhikar Parishad (Zaman-Faruk faction) at party chairperson's office, Khasru said they have discussed on the timeline of election and reforms.
"People of the country are eagerly awaiting an election. An elected government will be accountable to the people and uphold transparency," he said.
He also stated that having an elected government is crucial for addressing the country's overall challenges, both domestic and international.
"The sooner this becomes a reality, the better it will be for the nation. We pledge our support to ensure a smooth transition from the interim government to a democratic administration as quickly as possible," Khasru added.
Faruk Hasan, member secretary of Gono Odhikar Parishad, said, "The timeframe the chief adviser mentioned for holding the election seems unclear to us."
"We want the transfer of power to an elected government through a people-approved election quickly. The elected government will implement the reforms desired by the people through parliament," he added.
