Postal department to establish digital booths for parcel services
It hopes to facilitate the supply of parcels to customers
The postal department is going to establish Digital-Commerce Booths, across the country, to facilitate eCommerce businesses by facilitating the supply of parcels to customers.
For this purpose, the Postal Department and e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-Cab) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday at its head office.
E-Cab's vice president Md Sahab Uddin and the Postal Department's director Md Harunur Rashid signed the MoU.
Mustafa Jabbar, minister of Posts and Telecommunication, was present virtually at the signing ceremony.
As per the agreement, a standard size booth will be set up at each post office across the country to receive digital commerce products. Additionally, a high speed internet connection will be available in the booth.
There will also be suitable and necessary software and mobile applications for delivery services to customers. An integrated central monitoring cell and customer care center will be set up for delivery services.
Electronic Money Transfer Services (EMTS), warehouse and customer information services will be available next to the distribution service.
Mustafa Jabbar said, "It is possible to accelerate the current progress of commerce by utilising the capabilities of the postal department in transporting goods – as no one else has the manpower and network of the postal department. And the transportation system is a big obstacle in the e-commerce business."
Director General of the Postal Department, Md Siraz Uddin, said, "The postal department has entered a new era by signing an agreement with e-Cab. By joining the e-commerce business, on the one hand, the business of the postal department will increase, and on the other hand, the public will also get products easily and at a low cost."
The vice president of e-Cab said, "The previous agreement was completed on a larger scale after a pilot project of supplying goods to different parts of the country through 750 post offices, from Dhaka, was successful. To bring the whole service under the app, e-Cab has created software and integrated it with the post office software, which will be able to bridge the gap between digital commerce merchants and customers."
