Dr Faiz new UGC chairman, 5 univs get new VC including JU, RU

Prof Dr SMA Faiz has been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Ministry of Education issued a notification today (5 September) in this regard.
Dr Faiz, a former professor in the Department of Soil and vice-chancellor at Dhaka University, as well as a former chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, will serve a four-year term.
Meanwhile, new vice-chancellors have been appointed to five public universities, including Jahangirnagar University and Rajshahi University.
The Ministry of Education issued five separate notifications appointing them today.
At Jahangirnagar University, Prof Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan has been appointed vice-chancellor by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, who also serves as chancellor of the university.
Prof Ahsan's tenure will commence from the date he assumes the role, according to the notification.
Prof Kamrul Ahsan completed his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Philosophy from Jahangirnagar University. He holds a second master's degree from Sofia University, Bulgaria, and a PhD from Cardiff University, UK.
Currently, Prof Kamrul is the President of the Nationalist Teachers' Forum, a BNP-backed teacher organisation at the university, and a registered graduate senate member. He joined the university as a lecturer in 1993 and was promoted to professor in 2013.
At Rajshahi University, Prof Saleh Hasan Naqib, from the Department of Physics, has been appointed as vice-chancellor. His appointment will take effect from the day of his joining, as stated in the notification.
Prof Dr Md Abdul Latif has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. He is from the Entomology Department of the university.
At Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Prof Dr Muhammad Masud, from the Mechanical Engineering Department, has been named the new vice-chancellor.
At Noakhali Science and Technology University, Dr Muhammad Ismail of the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Dhaka University has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor.
Mentionable, both Prof Saleh Hasan Naqib of Rajshahi University and Dr Muhammad Ismail of Noakhali Science and Technology University earned their PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge. They also have various achievements in the field of research.
