The High Court has said ragging is a criminal offence and there is not bar to filing ragging-related cases under criminal acts.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader passed the order on Sunday.
From now on, if a student commits a serious crime in any educational institutions of the country, legal actions can be taken against them under criminal law. A draft policy by the education ministry was presented to the High Court in this regard.

The education ministry presented a report on the suicide of Aritri Odhikari, a student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.
The High Court remarked that ragging takes place at programmes such as fresher's reception and it called for tough legislation to stop it.
The court also pointed that murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad and other such incidents happen due to a lack of such laws.
