Rana Plaza collapse: Victims, affected families demand full compensation
The victims and family members affected by the Rana Plaza building collapse have demanded capital punishment of those responsible for the tragic incident that left 1,138 people dead.
They made the demand at a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka today.
The injured and affected workers said that 10 years on, but they did not get proper compensation yet.
They said that they were living in miserable conditions.
The previous government assured them of proper rehabilitation and compensation, but they did not provide it, they said.
Their other demands are that injured workers should be given free treatment, victims' children be given free education and full rehabilitation of them and their families.
Nurul Islam, an injured worker of Rana Plaza, said that the previous government had been playing pranks on them for the last 10 years.
"We have been kept calm with a nominal amount of compensation. Today, the injured workers are begging on the streets to feed themselves. We want fair compensation," he said.
He also said those responsible for the Rana Plaza building collapse are getting released due to legal loopholes, which is unacceptable.
