Chattogram vehicle owners urge for reform in new transportation act
Due to the new and strict road transportation act, more than half of the heavy vehicles are not on the roads
Chattogram Truck and Covered Van Owners Association has urged the government to reform the new road transportation act.
Din Mohammad, the general secretary of the association, said at a press conference held in Chattogram Press Club on Thursday that more than half of the heavy vehicles have been kept out of roads due to the strict road transportation act.
Din Mohammad said, "The old vehicles should be allowed to run under the previous act and new vehicles should fall under the new transport act. If a case is filed against any vehicle, there should be a provision to settle it in court."
He said around one crore light and heavy vehicles have a license in the country. The number of drivers with a license is 40 lakh. Among them, 10 lakh drivers are not in the profession anymore.
"Shortfall in driving license could be overcome if the process was instantaneous following the driving test," said Din Mohammad.
