DMP launches drive against traffic law violation

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) started imposing fines under the Road Transport Act 2018 in the capital since yesterday.
The fines have been imposed for violating traffic signals and plying on the wrong direction, said Mofiz Uddin Ahmed, additional commissioner (Traffic) of DMP.
He could not state the exact number of cases filed but told The Business Standard that five bikers were charged total Tk5,000 at Bijoy Sharani yesterday.

The drive has been launched in 20 areas under North, West and East zones of DMP and is continuing for the second day on Monday, Mofiz added.
The much-talked-about Road Transport Act came into effect on November 17.
The Road Transport and Bridges Ministry issued a notification on October 22 in this regard.
The 'Road Transport Bill-2018' was passed by parliament on September 19, 2018, keeping a provision of maximum five years' jail for any death or serious injuries caused by reckless or negligent driving.
