Railway reduces 25% transport fare, withdraws service charges for agricultural goods
The adjusted fares will come into effect from May 19 this year
Bangladesh Railway has reduced transportation fare by 25 percent and withdrawn service charges for agricultural goods, milk, eggs and vegetables produced by marginal farmers in this coronavirus pandemic crisis.
The adjusted fares will come into effect from May 19 this year.
To this end, the railway issued a directive on Monday.
Railway Director Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman said the adjustment to fares of parcel trains will facilitate supply of agricultural products to markets.
It will also play a role to increase the railway's revenue collection alongside strengthening the rural economy, he added.
Apart from freight trains, the special parcel trains are running on different routes to ensure a smooth supply of agricultural products, vegetables and perishable goods as per the government's directive to stem the spread of Covid-19.
