Truckers carrying PM office’s relief goods beaten up in Sirajganj
Two truck drivers of state-owned road transport agency Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) were allegedly beaten up by transport workers in Sirajganj today morning for running vehicles amid ongoing nationwide strike.
Four trucks were on their way to Sirajganj with warm clothes for destitute people. They were sent from the Prime Minister's Relief office.
Driver Al Amin told The Business Standard that some workers stopped his truck and beat him up for driving the truck.
"They beat me up and asked me why I was driving the truck. I have already informed my office about the incident," said Al Amin.
Al Amin also claimed that another driver of the government agency was beaten up at the same time.
When contacted, officials of the BRTC told the Business Standard that they have informed the district commissioner of Sirajganj to take step in this regard.
Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Faruk Ahmad said that he had sent people to release the truck drivers. He could not confirm whether they were released or not till filing of this report.
