In separate incidents at Rohingya camps in Cox Bazar's Ukhia a teenager was strangled to death, and five others, including an NGO worker, were injured during shootouts between the ARSA and RSO groups.
Ukhia Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Md Arif Hossain confirmed the incidents occurred at different times today (17 October) in Kutupalong 2 and 15 number camps in the upazila.
"In Kutupalong 2-East Rohingya camp, the body of an 18-year-old Rohingya youth, Mohammad Imran, was recovered from an abandoned house around 3:30pm.
"The youth was strangled to death. The body has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy," the OC added.
At camp no 15, shootouts between ARSA and RSO groups resulted in injuries to five people, including NGO worker Belal Uddin, 35, a learning centre coordinator of camp no 15, Omar Faruk, 30, from block D7 of camp no 15, Yunus, 25, from block 3, Abdullah, 18, from block 2 of camp no 11, and Hamida, 50, from camp no 14.
The OC said around 9am and 12pm, ARSA and RSO engaged in two rounds of shootings in camp number 15, fighting for dominance. In these incidents, NGO worker Belal and four Rohingyas, including a woman, were injured.
"The injured were taken to MSF Hospital for initial treatment and then transferred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital due to their critical condition. Legal action is being taken in this regard, and law enforcement patrols in the camps have been intensified."
