‘Rohingya relocation in Bhasan Char delayed due to pressure from Int’l agencies, NGOs’
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said Rohingya relocation to Bhasan Char is being delayed due to the pressure from international agencies and some NGOs.
He made the remarks in response to questions from reporters after visiting the Varendra Research Museum on Sunday.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to relocate about one lakh Rohingyas to Bhasan Char. Most of them are willing to go. But pressure from some NGOs and international agencies causes delaying of the relocation process," said the minister.
He further said the area where the Rohingyas are now staying is 6,800 acres. Although the houses are on the hills, the place is very congested. Also, there is a possibility of death if there is heavy rain, and everyone will blame us.
"Besides, most of them are involved in various kinds of mischiefs, including drugs and human trafficking," he added.
"If Rohingyas go to Bhasan Char, they will be able to perform economic activities such as agricultural work and raising cattle," said the minister.
