Satkhira administration recovers grabbed land, plants trees
The deputy commissioner recently evicted around 50 illegal shops in front of the Satkhira Sadar Hospital
In a drive to clean up Satkhira and make the district greener, the local administration has begun reclaiming grabbed lands by demolishing illegal establishments and later planting trees there.
With a slogan of "Clean Satkhira, Green Satkhira", Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal has been leading a drive to bulldoze illegal structures built on government lands beside roads and river banks.
Recently, the deputy commissioner evicted around 50 shops that were set up in the government land beside the road in front of the Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
Later, Satkhira Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin planted trees there to beautify the area.
"We will not allow any land grabbing in Satkhira. The administration is working to make the district clean and green. We are working with the people to make it a model district," said Deputy Commissioner SM Mostafa Kamal.
District Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin said, "We will not let anybody build up permanent or temporary establishments in the area recently cleared by the district administration. To keep the land free from grabbing, we have planted trees there."
"There is a passenger shed on the government land, but we will not destroy that as people need it. But we will make a garden in front of the hospital," he added.
The civil surgeon also fixed a place in the recovered land for management of the hospital waste.
