School boy goes missing in Buriganga river
Arian, along with his six friends, visited Gabtoli cattle market earlier in the day
A ninth-grader on Tuesday went missing in the Buriganga river of Dhaka. The missing boy - Arian is a student of Motijheel Model High School.
Arian, along with his six friends, visited Gabtoli cattle market earlier in the day. After a brief visit to the market, the boys decided to take a bath in the nearby river around 4:30pm.
Witnesses said none of them knew how to swim. Five of the boys jumped into the river, while one stood at the riverbank.
When his friends saw him drowning, they called locals for help. One person came forward and tried to save Arian from the river current, but Arian was washed away. He remains missing till the filing of this report.
Fire service personnel are conducting a search and rescue operation in the area.
The missing student’s parents were informed and they were on the way to the spot from their Basabo residence till filing of the report around 5:00 pm.
