Security beefed up in Dhaka for Durga Puja
CCTV cameras have also been installed at all the temples
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken the strictest possible security measures for the Durga Puja festivities.
DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam informed this to reporters after inspecting the security management at Dhaka's Dhakeshwari Temple on Thursday.
"Although we do not have any information of any threats, we are prepared to tackle any kind of violence during the puja," he said, adding separate teams will be deployed to ensure security at all puja mandaps and that everything will be monitored through the police control room.
CCTV cameras have also been installed at all the temples, Shafiqul further said.
The DMP chief also informed the mass media that the Durga Puja will be held in a total of 233 mandaps across Dhaka, of which 86 have been identified as two-star, 77 as one-star and 61 puja mandaps as general.
Along with police, volunteers from the puja organising committee will also be deployed for additional security.
"Pilgrims cannot enter the mandaps with any items deemed risky," he added.
The Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ramakrishna Mission Temple, Dhanmondi Puja Mandap and Banani Puja Mandap will get additional manpower because of their special status.
"We have already begun monitoring the mandaps that are supposed to be visited by very important persons," Commissioner Shafiqul said.
