Shameem Ahsan new Bangladesh ambassador to Italy

The government has appointed Md Shameem Ahsan, currently serving as Bangladesh high commissioner to Nigeria as the next ambassador to Italy.
Ahsan is a career foreign service officer belonging to the 11th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, reads a press release of the foreign ministry.
In his diplomatic career, he worked in various capacities in Bangladesh Missions in Kuwait, Doha, Nairobi, Rome, Washington DC and Bangladesh consul general in New York.
At the headquarters, he served in various capacities including as Director General (External Publicity) and (Europe).
Ahsan completed a year-long National Defence Course (NDC) on security, strategic and development issues from the National Defence College at Mirpur in Dhaka (2012).
He has written two books on diplomacy/international relations and published several articles on various issues such as role of Bangalee diplomats during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh, diplomatic immunity and privileges, country branding, environmental issues, economic relations, regionalism, South Asia, Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and on literary issues.
He obtained Masters & Honours degrees in Political Science (First Class First in both) from the University of Dhaka.
He stood first in order of merit at Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) under Jashore Board in Humanities and received numerous awards throughout his student life for academic feats.
