SI withdrawn on accusations of extorting accused in July uprising cases
He was transferred from Sylhet Range to Dhaka metropolitan police after 5 August
A sub-inspector identified as Shahin Parvez has been withdrawn from the Adabor police station over taking extortion from people who were mostly falsely accused in July uprising cases.
Confirming the matter, Adabor police station officer in charge, Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuyia, stated that Parvez was withdrawn yesterday (8 December) evening and later attached to Tejgaon division police under Dhaka metropolitan police.
He was transferred from Sylhet Range to Dhaka metropolitan police after 5 August.
Earlier, the DMP commissioner said police officers were also involved in extortion centring the July uprising murder cases.
"I won't say my people are good. We have already taken action against one of the police officials," said the OC.
After 5 August, following the fall of the Hasina regime amid a bloody mass uprising, a troubling new issue has emerged across the country.
Murder cases are being filed indiscriminately, often including innocent people as the accused. In many instances, money is being demanded from the accused to have their names removed from these cases.
