Smuggler held with gold bars worth over Tk1.6cr along Satkhira border

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained a smuggler along with 11 gold bars from Satkhira's at Bhomra Lakshidari border area on Thursday (12 September).
The detainee is Zakir Hossain, 31, son of Arijul Molla of Lakshidari village in Bhomra union.
Acting on tip-off, a team of BGB-33 conducted a drive in the area on Thursday night and caught Zakir red-handed along with 11 gold bars while he was trying to smuggle those into India, said its captain Ashraful Haque.
"11 pieces of gold bars were recovered wrapped in a towel around the arrested man's waist, weighing around 1.5 kg. The estimated market value of this gold is Tk1,60,70,528.
"A case has been filed with Satkhira Sadar Police Station and the process of depositing the gold bars at the Treasury Office is under process," the BGB official added.
