Stop drinking spurious liquor: Minister
“The import of liquor has been halted because of Covid-19 pandemic."
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday urged the public to refrain from drinking adulterated liquor.
The minister came up with the call while responding to reporters on the recent liquor-related deaths across the country.
"Those of you who drink alcohol do not drink adulterated alcohol," he said, reports Somoy TV.
"The import of liquor has been halted because of Covid-19 pandemic. That is why the production of adulterated liquor is increasing," said Asaduzzaman.
Total 16 deaths for consuming spurious liquor were reported from different upazilas of Bogura district alone at various times till Tuesday.
Earlier this week, three public relations firm employees died after taking spurious liquor at a resort in Gazipur.
Amid countrywide deaths related to toxic alcohol, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) busted a six-member gang Monday night who had been making the spurious liquor in Dhaka's Vatara area.
