Taposh files 2 defamation cases against Khokon
The move came two days after Khokon said incumbent mayor Taposh has lost eligibility to hold the post
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has filed two cases with a Dhaka court against former mayor Sayeed Khokon on allegation of defamation.
The move came two days after Khokon said incumbent mayor Taposh has lost eligibility to hold the post, reports Somoy TV.
The two cases were filed in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on Monday. The plaintiff in one case is Kazi Anisur Rahman while Advocate Mohammad Sarwar Alam is in the other.
Mayor Taposh earlier today said, "The former mayor held a meeting on Saturday where he made the allegations against me out of personal resentment. He has defamed me."
Earlier on Saturday, Sayeed Khokon alleged, "Taposh has transferred hundreds of crores of taka from the South City Corporation to his own Modhumoti Bank, and is receiving crores of taka in profit by investing hundreds of crores of taka in various individuals and institutions."
"On the other hand, due to a lack of money, the poor employees of the city corporation have not been getting their salaries for months. Many development projects have been halted due to a lack of funds," he claimed.
