Three arrested in connection with shooting incident over jhut business in Savar
2 more held in July murder case

Police today (12 February) arrested three individuals in connection with a shooting incident that took place on 9 February over control of the jhut (fabric waste) business in the Jamgora area of Ashulia in Savar.
The arrested individuals are Rana Mia (32), son of Md Mintu Mia from Chhongachha, Sirajganj Sadar; Raja Molla, son of late Abdul Malek Molla from Jamgora, Ashulia and Aminul Islam Suman (31), son of Abdul Gani from Kathgora Durgapur, Ashulia.
The clash reportedly involved two groups linked to the BNP, engaging in chases and gunfire.
During the arrests, law enforcement recovered a foreign-made pistol and a round of ammunition from a suspect named Rana Mia. However, it remains unclear whether the arrested individuals are affiliated with any political party.
At a press conference today, Md Shahinur Kabir, Dhaka district additional superintendent of police (Savar circle), said the arrests were part of the nationwide "Operation Devil Hunt," with police carrying out raids in different parts of Ashulia.
2 more arrested on murder charges
In addition, two more accused were arrested in connection with a case related to the killing of students and civilians in July-August 2024.
The arrested individuals are Mashiur Rahman (38), son of late Nurul Haque from Khejurbagan, Ashulia and Bijoy Gopal Saha (65), son of late Jagannath Saha from Rustampur, Ashulia.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Alam Siddique said Mashiur Rahman and Bijoy Gopal Saha were arrested in connection with the student-civilian killing case, while the others were apprehended for their involvement in the jhut business dispute that led to the violent clash.
