Three win BRAC Bank-Samakal Literary Award
A four-member jury board selected the winners from total 487 books in three categories
Reputed novelist Selina Hossain, eminent cultural personality and author Sanjida Khatun and young poet Swaralipi have won the BRAC Bank-Samakal Literary Award 2018.
They received the award at a Friday event at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital.
Selina Hossain got the award for "Saat-e Marcher Bikel" in the "poetry, novel and translation" category, while Sanjida Khatun got the award for her "Nazrul Manash" in the "essay, autobiography and travel" category. Meanwhile, the book "Mrittur Poragayon" brought the award for Swaralipi in the "Humayun Ahmed Young Writer" category.
Sanjida Khatun and Selina Hossain received Tk2 lakh each as prize money, while Swaralipi received Tk1 lakh.
National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman was the chief guest at the event, while Daily Samakal Acting Editor Mustafiz Shafi and Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BRAC Bank Selim RF Hussain were present among many prominent literary personalities.
BRAC Bank and the Daily Samakal launched the literary award in 2011 aiming to encourage writers and litterateurs to further enriching Bangla literature with their creative works.
Selim RF Hussain said, "Since its inception, the award has generated huge enthusiasm in the literary community of Bangladesh and established its place in the cultural arena of the country."
This year, a four-member jury panel led by fiction writer Hasan Azizul Haque selected the three winning books from total 487 books in three categories.
Other members of the board were fiction writers Syed Manzoorul Islam, Anwara Syed Haque and poet Helal Hafiz.
