Titumir College students send delegation to education ministry
The 14-member delegation went to the secretariat this afternoon
Titumir College students, demonstrating for the second consecutive day demanding the government upgrade their institution to a university, have sent a delegation to the Ministry of Education to hold talks with the relevant officials.
The 14-member delegation went to the secretariat this afternoon (19 November), reports Prothom Alo quoting Shafayet Shafiq, a protesting student.
Earlier, the protesting students held a "college shutdown" programme from 11:30am inside the college campus.
A large number of police personnel were deployed outside the college to avoid any untoward situation.
Yesterday, Titumir College students descended on the roads, blocking roads and even allegedly attacking a train, leaving many passengers injured.
Traffic movement was disrupted throughout the area, and its impact could be felt long after the demonstrations ended.
At 9pm, the protesting students declared a "College Shutdown" programme for an indefinite period of time. They cleared the roads in Mohakhali at around 9:30pm after pressing forth their demand to form a commission to upgrade their institution to a university.
The students said they would not participate in any classes or exams as part of this programme. They also announced a blockade today.
