Titumir protest continues, students block Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway
Four students fell ill and are receiving treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital
Students of Titumir College — who had been on hunger strike for five days, demanding university status — blocked Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Mohakhali's Amtoli for about two hours this evening (2 February).
They blocked the highway at about 6pm following Education Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud's comment that the government will not take any hasty decision regarding the Titumir College students' demand that their institution be declared a university.
They lifted their blockade on the highway at about 8pm and took position in front of the college and blocked the Mohakhali-Gulshan link road. Their blockade on the road continued as of filing this report at about 9:30pm.
Earlier, the Titumir College students blocked the road at noon in front of their college using bamboo barricades. Traffic between Mohakhali and Gulshan came to a complete halt due to the blockade.
The agitators said four students fell ill and were currently receiving treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital.
The students later relaxed their blockade for Akheri Munajat of Bishwa Ijtema.
