Tk43 VAT gives Tk10,000 in lottery win
He paid Tk500 including Tk43 as VAT to the hotel manager against the service he availed. Due to this VAT payment by EFD, he jointly won the 4th prize in a lottery of the National Board of Revenue.
Nasir Uddin, 60, spent a night in the hotel Golden Inn of Chattogram last month but did not know this could help him win a lottery.
It happened because he paid Tk43 in value-added tax(VAT) by Electronic Fiscal Device (EFD) against the service he received from the hotel.
He paid Tk500 including Tk43 as VAT to the hotel manager against the service he availed. Due to this VAT payment by EFD, he jointly won the 4th prize in a lottery of the National Board of Revenue.
Winning the lottery, he got Tk10,000 in prize money.
Akbar Hossain, commissioner for the customs, excise and VAT commissionerate, Chattogram, formally handed over the lottery cheque to Nasir Uddin in a ceremony at the commissionerate office in the port city on Monday.
Other senior officials of the tax office were also present on the occasion.
Notably, to encourage people to pay VAT by EFD, the National Board of Revenue has a lottery every month and awards VAT payers across the country.
In the lottery, a total of 101 prizes are awarded to VAT payers in four categories every month. This month's lottery was drawn on 5 June.
