Trains advised to be operated at slower speeds in Moulvibazar due to flood
Between Kulaura Junction and Chhakapan railway station, trains are required to run at a speed of 10km per hour due to rising water on the railway track
The Bangladesh Railways has instructed trains to operate at reduced speeds in Moulvibazar district as some parts of the railway tracks are underwater due to the floods.
Trains have been asked to run at a speed of 10km/h between Kulaura Junction and Chokapon railway stations as water level rose due to heavy rains and runoffs from hills.
The instructions were given to the station masters of Kulaura Junction and Maizgaon railway stations, which are on both sides of the flooded place, after an on-site inspection, confirmed Md Mozammel Haque, senior assistant engineer (road) and in-charge of Kulaura Junction Railway Station.
Mozammel Haque said normally, trains run at a speed of 50 to 60km/h on this railway but were asked to run at a speed of 20km/h since Wednesday.
"The speed has been further reduced to 10km/h, after authorities visited the site yesterday [on Thursday] as the situation is worsening. The masters of Kulaura Junction and Maizgaon railway stations on both sides of the flooded area have also been instructed in this regard by higher authorities," he added.
"Further actions will be taken if the situation worsens. Apart from this, signboards have been installed to warn the train drivers about speed control," he further said.
When inquired, Kulaura Junction Railway Station Master Roman Ahmad said all trains were running as per the new instructions.
