Trains delayed in Kamalapur Station after operations resume countrywide
Between 6:30am and 11am, 13 trains departed the stations, with minor schedule disruptions, Kamalapur Station Manager Anwar Hossain told The Business Standard
Train services across Bangladesh have resumed countrywide after railway running staff withdrew their strike in the early hours today (29 January).
However, the services met with delays in the Kamalapur Railway Station this morning.
Between 6:30am and 11am, 13 trains departed the stations, with minor schedule disruptions, Kamalapur Station Manager Anwar Hossain told The Business Standard.
However, the biggest delay occurred with the Sylhet-bound Parabat Express, which was delayed by over four and a half hours, he said, adding, "We are working to resolve the scheduling issues quickly."
Due to the resumption, the temporary BRTC bus service arranged for passengers has been discontinued.
Railway services have been suspended nationwide since yesterday (28 January) morning as the running staff launched their indefinite strike demanding pension and gratuity with their mileage allowance.
Later on, the Ministry of Railways had issued a notice stating that due to disruptions in nationwide train operations caused by the running staff strike, the BRTC bus service from Dhaka's Kamalapur and Airport railway stations to various destinations will continue until further notice.
The strike caused immense suffering for train passengers as they had booked tickets in advance and were unaware of the strike.
The situation further worsened as bus and other road transportation service providers hiked fares to exorbitant rates amid increased demands due to the lack of train services.
