Rail links temporarily disrupted as train derails in Joydebpur
Alternative arrangements made to maintain train operations on tracks 1 and 2
Rail communication between the capital and the country's northern and north-western districts was temporarily disrupted after a train engine derailed at Joydebpur Railway Junction in Gazipur city today (7 January).
However, alternative arrangements were quickly made to maintain train operations.
Yazba Hossain, the station master on duty at Joydebpur Railway Junction, said, "The Sirajganj Express left the station's platform 4 at 5:25pm and began its journey towards Sirajganj. After traveling a short distance, the engine derailed while changing tracks before the Joydebpur-Rajbari road level crossing. As a result, train services on tracks 4 and 5 were suspended. However, tracks 1 and 2 remained operational."
"Both meter-gauge and broad-gauge trains can continue to operate on tracks 1 and 2. Efforts are being made to maintain train services through a rotation system via these tracks," he added.
He also said that the derailment has been reported to Dhaka, and the engine will be recovered soon, with the disrupted tracks expected to be reopened quickly.
