Railway East Zone seeks to boost container transportation capacity
The railway authorities have undertaken a special work plan to modernise the railway’s services in the East Zone
The Bangladesh Railway seeks to increase its capacity for container transportation in the East Zone.
In this regard, senior officials of the railway East Zone held a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the Chattogram Port Authority and different business organisations at the railway office in Chattogram.
At the meeting, the railway authorities informed stakeholders about a special work plan undertaken by the railway to modernise its services and address key issues such as increasing the efficiency of loading and unloading of containers on trains at the port and repairing rail tracks.
Md Jahangir, general manager of railway's EastZone presided over the meeting.
Among other senior officials, Shekhor Ranjan Das, director of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Khairul Alam Sujan, director of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association; Md Liyakat Ali Howlader, port secretary of Clearing and Forwarding Agent Association; Rajib Chowdhury, assistant terminal manager of Chattogram Port Authority, were present at the event.
