Members of a truck drivers' union blocked the Sat Rasta intersection in the capital this evening (10 December) demanding the release of one of their leaders, who has been sent to jail after arrest.
They blocked the roads since 6:30pm this evening, said Tejgaon Industrial Zone Police officials.
They also lit up a fire on the road.
The protesters have been dispersed at around 8:00pm, police sources said, adding that the blockade has caused immense traffic congestion on the Mohakhali-Mogbazar road.
Police also said the protesters were demanding the release of Monir Talukder, president of Tejgaon Truck Drivers Union.
Monir, who is also a member of the Tejgaon Awami League's Executive Committee, is known to be a close associate of former home minister Asaduzzaman Kamal.
