Two passengers were killed when an autorickshaw was crushed by a bus in Rajshahi this evening (3 February).
The road accident occurred on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway in the Kasba area under the Damkura Police Station in the city at around 6pm, said police.
The deceased - both passengers of the autorickshaw- are Ibrahim and Maruf Hossain of Godagari in Rajshahi, Damkura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam told The Business Standard.
Locals said both of them were masons and were returning home after finishing their day's work.
"Five others were injured. The injured are undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. The condition of three of them is critical," he added.
Rabiul said the bodies of the deceased will be handed over to the families tomorrow after autopsy.
"The process of taking legal action in this incident is underway. The locals seized the bus in question and handed it over to Kashiadanga Police Station," he stated.
According to the police and locals, a passenger bus of Grameen Travels, which had left Chapainawabganj for Rajshahi, hit an auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction in the Kasba area.
The accident wrecked the autorickshaw, injuring seven people. Locals rescued them and sent them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared two of them dead.
