Travel ban imposed on former Dhaka South mayor Sayeed Khokon
The petition also alleged widespread corruption involving the former mayor and other officials of DSCC
A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Sayeed Khokon, his wife Farhana Sayeed, his mother Shahana Hanif, and his brother Javed Ahmed.
The order was issued today (23 December) by judge Md Ibrahim Mia of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director (Money Laundering) Md Masudur Rahman submitted the petition, citing allegations of abnormal transactions in bank accounts operated by Shahana Hanif, Sayeed Khokon, and Javed Ahmed.
The ACC claimed that Sayeed Khokon and his family members had misused their positions and political connections to amass significant assets both domestically and abroad.
The petition also alleged widespread corruption involving the former mayor and other officials of DSCC.
Given the circumstances, the ACC expressed concerns that the individuals might leave the country, hindering ongoing investigations and requested the travel ban to ensure the investigation proceeds without obstruction.
After a hearing led by ACC Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam, the court approved the request.
