Probe body finds Railway TTE Shafiqul not guilty
A three-member probe committee submitted its report to the Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager on Monday
The allegations of misconduct that three passengers brought against Bangladesh Railway's Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE) Md Shafiqul Islam have been proved untrue, says a probe report.
A three-member probe committee headed by Pakshi Division Assistant Transport Officer (ATO) Sajedul Islam submitted the 40-page report to Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Shahidul Islam on Monday morning.
"The report says the TTE is not guilty. The attendant of the compartment induced Imrul Kayes Pranto, one of the three passengers who was travelling without a ticket, to file a complaint against the TTE," said Shahidul Islam.
The probe committee was formed on 7 May to inquire into the allegation of misbehaviour. Other members of the committee were Pakshi Division Assistant Executive Engineer Shipon Ali, and Railway Security Team Assistant Commandant Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal.
The report was scheduled to be submitted last Thursday, but it was submitted on Monday due to weekly holidays and also because the DRM stayed in Dhaka to attend a meeting.
On 6 May, TTE Shafiqul Islam was temporarily suspended after he fined three passengers who were relatives of Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan, as they were travelling by Dhaka-bound Sundarban Express without any tickets.
On 8 May, the Pakshi DRM withdrew the suspension order of Shafiqul Islam after the news was published in the media. He also issued a show-cause notice to Pakshi Division Railway Commercial Officer Nasir Uddin.
