Two Bangladeshi diplomats urgently recalled from India's Kolkata, Tripura
They were ordered to return to Dhaka on an emergency basis on Tuesday
Heads of two Bangladeshi missions in India were urgently recalled to Bangladesh following an attack on the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala, Tripura, and protests outside the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, West Bengal, reports Prothom Alo.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) sources, the Acting Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Sikder Mohammad Ashrafur Rahman returned to the country today (5 December) while the Deputy High Commissioner in Tripura Arifur Rahman is also scheduled to return today.
They were ordered to return to Dhaka on an emergency basis on Tuesday.
In the afternoon, Ashrafur Rahman met with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain. He discussed the situation in Kolkata with the adviser.
A senior official of MoFA told Prothom Alo that the Deputy High Commissioner of Tripura Arifur Rahman is on his way to Dhaka.
Earlier on Monday, citing allegations of persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, supporters of several organisations including the Hindu Sangharsh Samity, a Hindu extremist organisation in India, attacked the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala.
They desecrated the national flag of Bangladesh and vandalised the mission premises.
A day after the attack, Bangladesh closed down its operations there due to security concerns until further notice.
