Uber re-emphasises focus on road safety, distributes helmets
Ensuring road safety is a top priority in Uber’s month-long road safety campaign.
Ride-sharing service Uber distributed helmets to UberMoto drivers in Dhaka on Monday in a move to reiterate the importance of road safety.
The issue of road safety has rightfully taken centre stage, and as a responsible mobility solutions provider, Uber echoes the pressing need to increase awareness among all stakeholders and society, says a press release.
The initiative is a part of Uber’s recently launched road safety campaign in Bangladesh.
The objective of this initiative was to spread awareness about road safety and the importance of wearing basic safety gear while on the road.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), adequate use of a helmet on roads can decrease mortality risk by 40 percent and the risk of head injury by 70 percent.
Uber Bangladesh Lead Zulquar Quazi Islam said, “As Bangladesh continues on its trajectory of growth, the role of road safety acquires immense importance. A combination of policy initiatives and awareness building activities are needed to shine the light on the criticality of road safety. At Uber, we always place safety at the heart of our service. With this helmet distribution drive, we hope to build awareness, and help driver-partners driving on our platform stay safe on the roads.”
Ensuring on-road safety is a top priority in Uber’s month-long road safety campaign.
The campaign is designed to raise public awareness about the need for road safety, and sensitise driver partners and riders about best road safety practices.
Wearing helmets is mandatory for all drivers and pillions as per Bangladesh’s traffic laws, and Uber continues to offer support from its end to help riders and driver partners on its platform adhere.
