KU student murdered: Police probe three possible angles, including feuds
No suspicion from family towards anyone
An MBA student of Khulna University (KU) was shot dead by unknown assailants in Khulna city on Friday night.
The victim is Arnab Kumar, 26, son of Chittaranjan Sheel of the city's Banargati area.
He was shot around 9:30pm while he was drinking tea at a stall in the city's Tetultala Mor, said witnesses.
Though police detained three individuals after the incident on the same night for questioning, the reason behind the murder remained unknown as of today.
Names of the three have not been disclosed as no concrete information has been obtained yet.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (South) Md Moniruzzaman said, "Operations began immediately after the incident. However, no case had been filed as of Saturday noon."
"The family may file a case in the afternoon," he added.
The police are investigating Arnab's murder from three possible angles.
These are whether there were disputes related to the contracting business of Arnab's father or his personal life, and over any possible romantic entanglement.
The family of the 26-year-old, however, has not expressed suspicion toward anyone.
Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Model police station, said, "Three bullets of a pistol and one shotgun shell were recovered from the scene."
According to witnesses, several motorbike-riding assailants approached Arnab while he was standing outside a tea stall and opened fire. One bullet hit Arnab in the head. Locals rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Arnab's body was handed over to his family following an autopsy, and his cremation was held at a local crematorium.
