Bangladesh Embassy in China celebrates Victory Day
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Beijing, China has celebrated the 50th Victory Day of the country with due dignity and enthusiasm.
Ambassador Mahbub Uz Zaman inaugurated the programme with the national anthem of Bangladesh.
The day-long programme was held on the embassy premises in Beijing last Wednesday. A discussion meeting was held in the first phase of the programme which was followed by a cultural event in the second phase. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming joined the discussion as a special guest from Dhaka via video conference.
One minute silence was observed paying homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, three million martyred freedom fighters.
A prayer was offered for the salvation of the departed souls and for the peace, stability, and progress of the country. Discussion meetings and cultural programmes were also organised on the day.
At the beginning of the webinar discussion, messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were readouts. The discussion was attended by Professor Xu Baofeng from Beijing University of Language and Culture, Professor Xiaoyu from Beijing Communication University, Yu Guangyue, Director of China Media Group, China Radio International Bangla Section Dhaka, and Cao Yanhua, Deputy Director of the CMG China Radio International Bangla Section Beijing.
Congratulating Bangladesh on the occasion of the Victory Day, Ambassador Li Jiming remembered the visionary leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the people of Bangladesh for their special contribution to the rise of independence in his speech. He said the people of China, like Bangladesh has been implementing economic liberation and rapid development of their country with long sacrifices and absolute tolerance. He described the Sino-Bangladeshi relationship as "impressive" and expressed confidence that it would be stronger in the coming days.
He further said that China, as one of the largest development partners of Bangladesh will continue to strive for a wide range of cooperation. Ambassador Li Jiming praised Bangladesh's economic progress amid the global pandemic and said that Bangladesh has always been successful and positive in preventing the outbreak.
Ambassador Mahbub Uz Zaman laid a wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation at Bangabandhu Corner of the Embassy. Defense Attaché Mahbub-ul-Alam highlighted the importance of this day in the light of Bangladesh-China relations in his speech. Expatriate Bangladeshi Shamsul Haque spoke on the historical significance of the Victory Day.
The Victory Day celebrations were attended by embassy officials and their family members, Bangladeshi expatriates living in Beijing, Chinese journalists, and Chinese guests.
