Notices being issued 'forging my signature': Coordinator Hasnat
Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has alleged that his signature is being forged to harass people and gain privileges, warning that those involved will face the maximum legal punishment.
"There have been complaints of sending notices forging my fake signature and harassing the general public in different parts of the country. There was even a complaint that a person using my signature was going to Japan on scholarship and he was blocked at immigration. Legal action has been taken on these complaints. Such activity from the people of the country is disappointing," he told reporters after a meeting with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday (29 August).
"Lobbying, false cases, harassment and extortion are not acceptable in any way as they are against the basic spirit of our mass uprising. Therefore, the administration is requested to take action against those who will be involved in these activities in light of the existing legal framework. We are not associated with any irregularities," he added.
He said, "Appointing someone to a position, forcing someone to resign, collecting donations, or engaging in favouritism—these are practices of the distant past and we want to stop these.
"There is no scope to misuse the coordinator's name for any special privileges. The system will function as it should, and the ACC will operate according to its laws."
Another coordinator Sarjis Alam, who was also present with him, said, "We discussed with the ACC chairman how the commission can rise from the image crisis it has faced over the past 16 years so that the ACC can regain the trust of the people."
