‘Why accept salary for irrelevant work?’

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Iqbal Mahmud has asked the graft watchdog officials whether it is right for them to accept salary if their work becomes irrelevant to the organization’s mission and vision. 
 
He made the comment on Wednesday at a training course for its officials on corruption charge investigation held at the ACC headquarters in Dhaka.

“Only through changing their behavior, professional mentality and strategy, commission officials can expand its effectiveness. They must remain polite at all times and use their knowledge and analytical skill during interrogations,” said the ACC chairman.
 
Iqbal Mahmud said that the ACC must keep a promise [to curb irregularities] and this responsibility definitely falls on commission officials. 
 
“ACC officials must be sincere in upholding the commission’s promise. If their work and behaviour become irrelevant with the organization’s mission and vision, accepting salary will no longer be valid for them,” he added.
 
Pointing out that the ACC is launching at least one anti-corruption raid throughout the country every day, the commission chairman said: “We are optimistic that a day will come when people engaged in irregularities will lose courage to do so.”
 
The ACC director, deputy director, assistant director and deputy assistant director were among many other officials who attended the training session.
