The Narayanganj Police has arrested a woman for allegedly murdering and decapitating a businessman she was having extramarital affairs with after they broke up, according to police.
The body of the deceased, Jasim Uddin Masum, a 62-year-old businessman, was recovered by the police from Rupganj yesterday (13 November).
Police have arrested a suspect, Ruma Akhter, in connection with the murder, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumdar said at a press briefing today (14 November),
According to the SP, Ruma, who was involved in a romantic relationship with Masum, confessed to killing him out of anger after a recent falling out.
"She lured him to a house in Shyamli, drugged him, and then brutally murdered and dismembered his body," Majumdar alleged.
Masum, a resident of the Bashundhara Residential Area, was the owner of Chand Dyeing Factory in Narayanganj's Fatulla. He was reported missing on 10 November after he left Gulshan with a car, telling his driver he would continue to Narayanganj in a different vehicle.
His son later filed a general diary report at Gulshan Police Station when Masum did not return home and his phone was found switched off.
According to police, Ruma allegedly lured Masum to a home in Shyamoli on 10 November. After mixing a sedative into his milk, she killed him while he was unconscious. She then dismembered his body with an axe and disposed of the remains in various locations in Purbachal.
Police are investigating the possibility of other individuals involved in the crime, said Superintendent Majumdar.
He said police recovered the murder weapon.
