Writ seeks Tk10cr compensation for Abrar’s family
Abrar was beaten to death allegedly by some leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Buet unit
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate AKM Fayez filed a writ petition at the High Court on Sunday seeking a directive on Buet to pay Tk10 crore compensation to Abrar Fahad's family.
The writ also sought a directive for a judicial inquiry into the case, and for providing security to Abrar's family.
A hearing on this writ may be held on Monday before a High Court bench comprising of Justices Md Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Md Ashraful Kamal, said Fayez who filed the writ petition on behalf of Supreme Court Lawyer Advocate Shahin Babu.
Nine including the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and its Vice Chancellor Saiful Islam, the inspector general of police and the secretary of the home ministry were mentioned as defendants in the petition.
The writ was filed for public interest, added Fayez.
Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet, was beaten to death allegedly by some leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League's Buet unit inside the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
