‘You cannot hold onto power illegally by killing people’: Ameer of Jamaat
No one could hold onto power illegally by killing people, Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Shafiqur Rahman said.
"There is no area in Bangladesh where the AL-government hasn't stained its hands with the blood of the people. In the end, they went mad with the thirst for murder to hold on to their illegal power," he said at an event organised by the district Jamaat-e-Islami in Chuadanga this morning (28 September).
"One of these acts of madness was committing a massacre, while the other was banning Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir in Bangladesh by the previous authoritarian government," he added.
"You cannot hold onto power illegally by killing people. You cannot stop the Islamic wave by banning it."
In his address, as the chief guest, he further said he can talk in a free environment today because of the change that 5 August brought and no political scientist could have predicted such a change at that time.
"We remember those who contributed with deep respect. I pray for the souls of all those who were tortured and left this world during the 15 years of misrule by the previous authoritarian government," he added.
