Zia’s Bir Uttam title depends on connection to Bangabandhu murder: Minister
"Zia's title has not revoked till now"
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said that steps would be taken to revoke BNP founder Ziaur Rahman's gallantry title of "Bir Uttam" if he is found involved in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's murder.
"Zia's title has not revoked till now," the minister said during a function on Saturday.
"It has been decided to cancel the titles of those, who are self-confessed or convicted killers of Bangabandhu," he added.
The minister further said, "Concerned committee is investigating the matter. After the investigation, the report will be presented before the nation."
Earlier, National Freedom Fighters Council decided to cancel Ziaur Rahman's state title.
At the same time, it recommended cancellation of the state titles of Bangabandhu's self-confessed murderers Shariful Haque Dalim, Nur Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Mosleh Uddin.
Later, BNP activists across the country staged protest against the decision on cancellation of Ziaur Rahman's 'Bir Uttam' state title.
