Robi rocks again in MNP gain
Robi has been on the top of receiving subscribers from others since the launch of MNP
Robi, the country's second largest mobile network operator, once again managed to secure 70% customers who have switched operators through the mobile number portability (MNP) service in the first eight months of this year.
During this time, the operator received 115,265 subscribers from its three other market rivals. At the same time, 28,268 customers also left Robi.
Since the launch of MNP on October 1, 2018, Robi has been on the top of receiving subscribers from other operators. In the one year since the MNP service launch, the operator bagged 72% of the customers who switched operators while retaining their 11-digit numbers unchanged.
Welcoming the new subscribers, Shahed Alam, chief corporate and regulatory officer of Robi, said, "BTRC report on MNP service clearly shows that Robi is the most preferred digital brand of the country. We invested heavily in our network to improve service quality so that subscribers can enjoy a better experience."
"We hope more subscribers will join the country's largest 4.5G network," he added.
During the first eight months of the current year, 256,857 subscribers from all operators intended to take the MNP service. However, some 93,349 attempts to switch networks since January failed on different grounds.
Banglalink, the country's third largest mobile carrier operator, was on the top of losing its customers again. Some 86,031 subscribers divorced the operator.
Meanwhile, the operator gained 8,641 subscribers from other market competitors.
Grameenphone, the country's largest mobile network operator, had 37,557 new customers onboard while 47,597 customers also left.
State-owned Teletalk came last in both the segments. It got 2,045 customers from others while 1,612 departed from its network.
Bangladesh introduced MNP, becoming the 72nd country to do so, with a view to increasing competition and egging on operators to improve their service quality.
According to the guideline, any customer can switch networks while retaining their existing number. The benefit can be availed every 90 days for all operators except Grameenphone due to the Significant Market Power imposition.
