Bangladesh 9th among countries where new cases rising

Bangladesh registered over 2,800 cases of infection yesterday, placing itself on the 9th among countries globally where new Covid-19 cases are increasing.

The New York Times' database presented the insight, dividing all the affected countries into three categories based on infections: where new cases are rising, mostly the same and falling.

These categories had 75, 52 and 41 countries respectively.

With 60,391 active cases, Bangladesh was placed in the first category – where new cases are rising.

Neighbouring India ranked 2nd with over 9,000 cases daily. It recorded the highest daily active cases of 5,032 on June 4.

Pakistan was 7th, Afghanistan 18th, Nepal 40th, Maldives 47th, Sri Lanka 48th respectively and all of them fell in the category where new cases are increasing.

Bhutan did not make it to any of these categories as it had only 48 confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, Brazil topped the first category as the Covid-19 outbreak in the country worsened steadily.

The number of confirmed cases yesterday crossed 615,000 there, making it the top country in the category – where new cases are increasing.

The United States, Russia and Spain were the hardest-hit countries where new cases were mostly the same.

The United Kingdom, Italy and Germany belonged to the list where new cases were falling.

Though Bangladesh reported 2,828 infections yesterday, recent data showed that daily infected cases hit 2,911 on June 2 – the biggest single-day hike.

However, recoveries remained stable, at one out of five, in the last couple of weeks. But infections seemed to be rising steadily.

The average of Bangladesh's daily case growth rate is 12.42 percent and active case growth rate 13.8 percent.

With a spike in novel coronavirus cases, Bangladesh reported 60,391 infections from 372,365 tests as of June 5.

The recovery rate was 21.2 percent, compared to 2 percent, a month ago. 

However, countries like Brazil (44.7 percent) have a similar recovery rate to India (48.2 percent). 

Meanwhile, if the current infection rate continues, Bangladesh will have nearly 1.3 lakh cases by the end of June and 2.18 lakh cases by the end of July, with the current daily tests.

Bangladesh is now the 20th most infected country in the world now when it comes to active cases.

As of May 17, it was the 30th most infected country with 22,268 cases and 328 deaths. It took 20 days for the country to advance ten steps.

Globally, more than 6.6 million people have been infected in 188 countries so far with the highly contagious Covid-19 and more than 390,000 deaths have been recorded, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
