Bangladeshi students of Chinese universities seek govt support for returning to China

Bangladeshi students – who studied in different Chinese universities before the Covid-19 outbreak – have sought the support of Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to return to China.

The students made the urge in a letter to the ministry on Tuesday, adding that more than 3,000 of them have already spent eight months in Bangladesh due to the pandemic, and many Chinese universities will resume classes from September.

Pointing out that they want to resume their academic activities in their respective educational institutions in China, the students said unless they rejoin their semesters, their education and career will be at serious risk.

This issue will also cause a significant crisis to a large number of students and their families, the letter read.

The students added that as the situation is becoming better in China, and vaccine trials are showing a ray of hope, foreign ministries of a few countries have already contacted the Chinese government and got entry permission for the countries' students.

The letter, on behalf of more than 3,000 Bangladeshi students enrolled in Chinese institutions, requested the ministry to take necessary steps for discussing the issue with the Chinese government or its education ministry, and facilitate the return of these students to China.
