The postal service has launched nationwide free delivery of medical equipment to help combat the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Announcing this in a press release on Sunday, the service said it is delivering personal protective equipment, coronavirus testing kits and public awareness leaflets – from the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) in Tejgaon to civil surgeons' offices across the country.
The postal service launched the initiative on Saturday under the directive of Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar. Sixty covered vans are delivering the medical equipment to civil surgeons' offices in all 64 districts of Bangladesh.
The minister also directed the Bangladesh Post Office Director General SS Bhadra to monitor and supervise the initiative.
The service also took the initiative to include telecommunication and internet as emergency services, said the press release.
The officials and staff members of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd, Teletalk and internet service providers are making a serious effort to ensure uninterrupted digital services across the nation amid the nationwide shutdown, it added.
