A team of leading Chinese medical experts with firsthand experience in dealing with the coronavirus arrived in Dhaka on Monday.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming, and Director General of Health Services Abul Kalam Azad received the team at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the morning.
The Chinese embassy in Dhaka in a press release said the team has made full preparations to assist Bangladeshi doctors and have kept their eyes on the Covid-19 situation in Bangladesh.
The team, organised by the National Health Commission of China, consists of 10 respiratory physicians selected by the Hainan Provincial Health Commission, according to officials at the Chinese embassy.
The experts arrived with a bunch of medical equipment used to treat coronavirus patients.
The team will stay in Bangladesh till June 22. Dr SM Sahidul Islam, police superintendent of the Central Police Hospital, has been assigned to support the team.
"During their stay, the medical experts will visit designated coronavirus hospitals, quarantine and testing centres, discuss on the pandemic with their Bangladeshi counterparts, and make calibrated propositions for containment and treatment," said Foreign Minister Momen.
Earlier, during a phone call on May 20, Chinese President Xi Jinping assured Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of standing beside Bangladesh in its all-out war against Covid-19.
Many cooperative measures have been taken by the Chinese, most of which have already been implemented in Bangladesh since the outbreak here, according to the Chinese embassy in Dhaka.
