Country records highest number of daily Covid-19 cases in 83 days
The country’s novel coronavirus death toll now stands at 6,416

Twenty-eight more people have died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours until Monday at 8am, while the number of new cases is at its highest in 83 days.
According to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 2,419 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
Previously, the highest number of daily cases was reported on 2 September, when 2,582 people tested positive for the virus in a single day.
The country's novel coronavirus death toll now stands at 6,416 and the number of total cases has reached 449,760.
The latest day's infection rate was 15.06% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 16.88%. The death rate stands at 1.43%.
During the same period, 2,183 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 364,611 with an 81.07% recovery rate.
Among the latest day's victims, 21 were men and seven were women. All the deceased died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 21 of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, and one from Sylhet division.
Meanwhile, 16,059 samples were tested in 117 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 2,665,131 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victim's shows that 4,930 of the total deceased were men and 1,486 were women.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
