Elderly dies in Covid-19 unit, infected doctor couple sent to Dhaka
Twenty-two patients are being treated at the hospital's coronavirus ward till Saturday afternoon while 16 of them were kept in isolation
An 80-year-old man died at the coronavirus unit of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal at around 10am today.
Meanwhile, a doctor couple, who got infected with the virus at Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex in the district, were sent to a Dhaka hospital for better treatment.
In the last 30 hours, three patients died at the coronavirus unit of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Two of them came positive for the coronavirus test.
Director of the hospital SM Bakir Hossain said the elderly person's home is at Beerjhuri area in Pirojpur's Kaukhali upazila.
He had been admitted to the hospital on April 16 with Covid-19 symptoms. On that day, his sample was collected and sent to the RT PCR lab of the medical college. On April 17, he tested positive for the virus.
In the meantime, a medical student and a doctor couple of Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex were infected with the coronavirus. They were sent to Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital in Dhaka.
Health complex sources said locals blocked the gate behind the medical college after they heard about the medical student's news of infection.
District Civil Surgeon Dr. Monowar Hossain said two doctors of the government hospital, a student of a medical college, three nurses and five hospital staff were infected with the virus.
Dr Monowar Hossain also said that the Health Division is keeping contacts with the infected doctors, nurses and employees. Hopefully, everyone will get well soon.
On Friday evening, a 72-year-old patient died at the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital's coronavirus unit.
He was admitted to the hospital's Corona unit on Thursday afternoon with fever, cold and shortness of breath. The report of his infection came after his death.
On early Friday morning, a 42-year-old woman also died at the hospital. The woman was a resident of Panchbunia village of Patuakhali. She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday afternoon with fever and cold cough. Her Covid-19 test report came positive on Friday night after her death.
